TRACK 2:

The Healthy Adult in Love with Chelsea Wakefield

Includes LIVE Questions and Answers

Chelsea Wakefield, PhD, outlines a relationship roadmap using schema therapy for couples (ST-C), explaining that we don’t “find” great partners, we “become” them when we do the inner healing work to remap early maladaptive schemas and dysfunctional modes that interfere with establishing and sustaining a meaningful love relationship.  She invites couples to examine how their “inner cast of characters,” our modes, are relating in rewarding and troublesome ways.

Regarding communication, Chelsea asks “who” is communicating and “who” is listening, outlining six essential “love capacities” that our Healthy Adult mode can develop that will put us on a path toward meaningful, enduring relationships.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the 5 stage progression along the Relationship Roadmap – from Enchantment to Conscious Relating.
  • Articulate why personal work is essential for interpersonal success in an intimate relationship.
  • Articulate why great relationships are created through personal and interpersonal growth rather than “found.”
  • List the six essential Love Capacities outlined by Wakefield
  • Describe why being aware of “who” (in our “inner cast of characters”) is communicating in a relationship exchange is as important as “what” is being communicated.
  • Describe why creating a compelling vision for the relationship is important.
  • Describe the qualities and capacities that Healthy Adult in Love demonstrate in their intimate relationships.
