JUNE 24 - 26, 2021 / WORLDWIDE
Sometimes, when working with the difficulties of a client, the most intense and hard work goes on when we need to confront the Parent Mode. The client feels many times torn apart, between wanting to defend the Parent mode and wanting to defend the little Child within himself. At times, a harsh intervention of the therapist towards the Parent mode can be sabotaged by the client who feels pulled into different directions.
Transactional Analysis offers a great model in dealing with problems that appear in the Parent mode. Using chair work and mode dialogues, during this workshop we will present different ways of dealing with the Parent mode when it becomes problematic. We will give different examples of dealing with the Parent mode through two techniques used in TA: Parent interview and reparenting the parent.
The two techniques inspired from TA are especially necessary when the original parent figure/figures of the child that our client once was were either emotionally or mentally disturbed, or abusive. This way of working offers an opportunity to deal with this disturbed mode of the client in a comprehensive way, which feels less threatening to the Child mode and can be well integrated in the Healthy Adult mode, and also in the future internal dialogue of the client.
