Responsibilities of the Certification Coordinator of the ISST Board

The Certification Coordinator is responsible for

  1. attending to the maintenance, development and modification of all ISST guidelines and protocols related to certification, supervision for certification, and ensuring clinical competence in schema therapy for ISST certified therapists.

  2. monitoring the activities of the various Training and Certification Committees, and, if needed, proposing the formation of new committees to address important tasks, and, where committees are no longer needed, dissolving them. 

  3. attending the monthly Executive Board meetings (including longer meetings that may take place at ISST events) and actively participating in Executive Board functions.

  4. maintaining contact with Training Directors and National Certification  coordinators throughout the world regarding issues and concerns with respect to certification requirements and processes.

  5. evaluating and giving approval to all routine certification applications: (Individual, Group, Child and Adolescent, and Couple), in accordance with the requirements established by the Executive Board – or making arrangements for this with the help of one or more experienced Trainers.

  6. organizimg and maintaining effective procedures for the submission and processing of applications for certification at all levels (Standard, Advanced, Supervisor, Trainer).

  7. ensuring that records are kept of all applications for all types of certification as well as the outcome of all applications.

  8. ensuring that there is an up to date database with complete information about ISST certified schema therapists, with respect to name and conta t details, level and category of certification and dates on which certification was obtained.

  9. by working closely with the relevant committees that deal with each certification category (Individual, Group, Children and Adolescents, Couples), ensuring that the requirements for certification at each level (standard, advanced, supervisor, trainer), are reviewed (and where necessary updated) on an ongoing basis.

  10. coordinating the validation of the scales being used to assess competence in the evaluation of session recordings and case conceptualizations submitted for certification purposes.

In discharging these and other responsibilities, the Certification Coordinator must work closely with the Training Coordinator on all matters that have implications for training.

The Certification Coordinator must also liaise with the ISST’s virtual office manager with respect to all matters that have implications for keeping databases up to date and other administrative functions.
