Honorary Life Members of the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST): Regulations and procedures

In paragraph 5 of the ISST statutes, it is stated: (4) Honorary Life member: Honorary Life Members of the International Society of Schema Therapy are nominated by the Executive Committee and must be approved by a General Membership Assembly. Bestowing this level of membership is an honor accorded by the Society in recognition of outstanding contributions to schema therapy and the ISST and is relatively rare. Honorary Life Members have the same rights as Full Members but do not pay a membership fee.

  1. In paragraph 5 of the ISST statutes, it is stated: (4) Honorary Life member: Honorary Life Members of the International Society of Schema Therapy are nominated by the Executive Committee and must be approved by a General Membership Assembly. Bestowing this level of membership is an honor accorded by the Society in recognition of outstanding contributions to schema therapy and the ISST and is relatively rare. Honorary Life Members have the same rights as Full Members but do not pay a membership fee.

  2. Nominations: Nominations are made by the Executive Board.

a. It is recommended that towards the end of its two-year term, the Executive Board consider nominating at least two members of the ISST for Honorary Life Membership. These can then be proposed to the General Membership Assembly which will vote to ratify the Executive Board’s recommendations.

b. The Executive Board, would normally look at the following areas in considering the nature of the “outstanding contributions to schema therapy and the ISST” made by those being considered for nomination for Honorary Life membership:

i. Contributing to the society by extended service on the Executive Board and/or other ISST committees and in the process making a significant contribution to the development of the Society and the furthering of its objectives.

ii. Contributing to the development and dissemination of schema therapy by publishing books, book chapters and articles of direct relevance to clinical practice of schema therapy.

iii. Contributing to the development and dissemination of schema therapy by developing and disseminating training materials such as video demonstrations of schema therapy interventions or other clinical resources specifically relevant to the practice of schema therapy.

iv. Contributing to the development and dissemination of schema therapy by offering, over an extended period, training of high quality in the practice of schema therapy, for example, through the running of a training program, supervision, and the offering of advanced workshops (including at ISST events).

v. Making a significant contribution to research and research publications that advance the visibility and credibility of schema therapy within the scientific and professional community.

c. Those considered for nomination would normally have made contributions in area (i) above and at least two others.

d. It is not incumbent on an Executive Board to make any nominations, and in the absence of any members clearly meeting the above criteria, no nominations should be made.
