About
Ian is a clinical and research psychologist and clinical trainer. He received his Ph.D in Forensic Psychology from the Institute of Psychiatry in 2005 and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Surrey in 2008.
During his clinical career he worked across a range of NHS services including: eating disorders, adult community mental health services and inpatient units. He has authored research papers, academic textbooks and journal articles, as well as being a specialist advisor on media projects. From early in his career on Ian has specialised in personality disorder, severe and enduring mental health disorders.
Between 2010-2015, Ian combined a NHS clinical post with being a tutor at the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training (University of Oxford/NHS). In 2016 he designed and developed SHERPA (Student’s Health Emotion Regulation Pathway) at the University of Bristol Students’ Health Service, which specialises in assessing and treating personality disorder and other complex presentation He continues as the Clinical Lead Psychologist at SHERPA.
As well as Schema Therapy, Ian has a background in DBT and Mentalization Based Therapy.
