Using Chairwork with clients has many therapeutic benefits and can be a powerful technique to integrate into your practice.  In some psychological approaches it is an integral part of the process as in schema therapy.

Chairwork can:

Give voice to the inner dialogue we might be having with ourselves. For example, clients may describe the different parts of themselves thinking and feeling differently about a situation, relationship or decision. Chairwork can offer opportunity to explore this and hear the messages with clarity.

Chairwork can help the therapist and client identify any unhelpful thinking styles and barriers clients bring to the session. Developing and exploring healthier styles in chairs can help facilitate change.

Chairwork acknowledges how complex some of these inner dialogues can be but can help clients separate and structure what is helpful to them and what isn’t.

Chairwork can be particularly effective for clients who want to make a decision, respond differently in a relationship or explore repeated patterns of negative behaviour.

This 1 day workshop will provide expert tuition and demonstrations (live or video) of Chairwork exercises allowing delegates to practise skills.  The day is aimed at a wide range of clinicians who work with clients with difficulties from mild to severe including complex PTSD and/or personality disorders or similar presentations.  Please note that attendees are not expected to have prior experience of Chairwork or schema therapy but should be willing to practise Chairwork in dyads; this is not simply a didactic workshop.

Please note that a minimum of 6 attendees is required to run all workshops.
