ISST GENERAL MEMBERSHIP ASSEMBLY SEPTEMBER 2018 INFORMATION PAGES

Dear ISST member

The General Membership Assembly (GMA), normally held every two years, is an important event for the ISST as it provides for the formal approval by the membership of the activities of the outgoing Executive Board, for approval of nominations made by the Executive Board, for an auditor and for Honorary Life Members, and for the approval of changes to the ISST statutes.

Reports from members of the Executive Board

Proposed Statute Changes

Proposed Appointments

Only full members are eligible to vote and they will receive an email with a link to the online voting page and an access code. There are 11 items to vote on by responding YES  or NO or ABSTAIN. While some members might have limited interest in some of the fine details of these items, the Executive Board encourages you to vote in the GMA because we need a quorum (a minimum number of voters) in order for the outcome to be valid.

The Executive Board also encourages you to support all the various proposals, as we believe that each, in its own way, contributes to the smooth running of our Society.  A blog page has been available on the website for several weeks now allowing members to voice any concerns or question any of the proposals and as of today 15th September, no one has posted any concerns or objections and the page is now closed.

The Board did receive one request by email, from our Honorary Scientific Advisor, Arnoud Arntz, which was to add a paragraph to the Statutes limiting the number of consecutive terms a member can serve on the Executive Board to three.  We accepted this proposal and it has been added to the agenda.  However, currently our Society is heavily dependent on the Treasurer, Eckhard Roediger, to run the administration of the finances and the office.  Our organization has grown very fast and we are in the process of restructuring our administration so that it is less dependent on close supervision by the Treasurer.  However, this has only just begun and will take some time. We are in a similar position with the Public Affairs Coordinator:  we are heavily dependent on Travis Atkinson who is currently in this role, for a great deal of the communications and marketing and website management that are so central to the expansion and efficient functioning of our society. For this reason, we are proposing that this particular statute change only come into effect after the upcoming elections for the Executive Board that will take place immediately after the conclusion of this GMA.  Arnoud Arntz has indicated his full support for delaying the implementation of this statute as he fully understands the challenges of the structural changes we are currently engaged with.
