PERSONAL STATEMENT

Members of the ISST Community, I am pleased to accept the nomination for the position of Secretary.  Like many, I am passionate about Schema Therapy and welcome the opportunity to be a part of the board in maintaining the integrity of the model and preserving the sense of connectedness amongst the ISST community around the world, which I find humbling, and am proud to be a part of.  Thus being a member of the board provides the opportunity to advocate on behalf of its members and ensure that needs are heard and ideally, met.

I have had the good fortune of being part of a number of committees and executive teams throughout my professional career, namely for a private psychiatric hospital for over 10 years as well as the director of the Schema Therapy department which I established.  In maintaining the integrity of the Schema Therapy model, I am currently part of the Quality Assurance Committee, the Group Certification Committee, and Certification reviewer for Australia.

The successful implementation of the Schema Therapy Department within a hospital setting was supported by Joan Farrell and Ida Shaw, a feasibility study was subsequently carried out with promising results; these results were published in a peer reviewed Journal last year.   I am committed to the scientist-practitioner model and would like to see the evidence base for Schema therapy to continue and as a board member would like to find ways to support and encourage others to also consider contributing to the growing evidence base for Schema Therapy as an effective therapy.  It was fantastic to see recently, in the Australian Psychological Society monthly magazine, that Schema Therapy was regarded as a level 1 treatment approach for Borderline Personality Disorder.

I am someone who is driven by learning, and am very passionate about the conferences we hold and the learning opportunities we provide in ensuring our members feel better equipped in delivering Schema Therapy and thus, having good clinical outcomes in their every - day practice.  As secretary ensuring a good training schedule at our conferences will be a priority.

I am very committed to Schema Therapy and the ISST and would be thankful in your support as being a member of the Executive Board in representing your needs with regards to the aforementioned issues listed.

Rita
